21e PIOLETS D’OR

3rd - 6th April 2013

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (F) and Courmayeur (I)

And the winner is....

In light of the very high level of the six ascents, the 2013 Jury chaired by Stephen Venables has decided to award each of the six nominated ascents a "Piolets d'Or", indicating a possible way forward towards more emphasis on diversity.

5th PIOLETS D’OR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT - “Walter Bonatti Award”

The Piolets d’Or Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognise alpinists who have inspired multiple generations of climbers to follow in their footsteps, and whose accomplishments reflect the ideals of the event’s charter.

In 2009, the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Walter Bonatti. The award went to Reinhold Messner in 2010, Doug Scott in 2011, and Robert Paragot in 2012.

This year, the 5th Piolets d’Or Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Kurt Diemberger
