Great success for the 17th Piolets d'Or!

Renaissance and international recognition were the key words for the Piolets d'Or 2009. Some prestigious climbers supported the event. A wonderful celebration of amateur mountaineering which wants nothing more than to continue over the coming years.....

The Jury was unanimous. Doug Scott, the president, insisted on the fact that the six nominated climbs were exceptional. Three Piolets d’Or were awarded. Each of the three ascents brought to the fore one of the criteria of the charter, whilst also giving maximum consideration to the other points: the spirit of exploration, commitment and independence as well as a particularly high technical level.

This year's ceremony signals the rebirth of the Piolets d’Or. For us there are neither winners nor losers. Those honoured are ambassadors of a skill, an art, and a passion”   Doug Scott
